The Named Orchids
Heath Fragrant
The Heath Fragrant Orchid
Heath Fragrant orchid
Heath Fragrant, Gymnadenia borealis a small and delicate type of Fragrant that seems to prefer acidic soil, which is why I have mainly seen them in the New Forest. Both Heath and Marsh Fragrant used to be classed as sub-species of the Common Fragrant Orchid, but now, they have been given specific status in their own right. Although they have been recorded in Dorset before, they are very hard to find, this year (2010) I found a few in the Creech area.
