The Dactylorchid group
Early Marsh Orchid
Early Marsh incarnata
The "Diploid" Marsh orchid family is generally split into four subspecies in the UK. In Dorset we have two, both have pale, broad and unspotted leaves. Incarnata has pale pink flowers, is the first out, about mid-May, and is a typical water meadow orchid.
The floral bracts are very obvious on this plant and the lip markings usually take the form of double loops.
